If there’s one thing I do well, it’s procrastination. I could probably write a book on the subject if it wasn’t for my impecable skill in the given field. Take this blog entry as an example, after a month of absence I’ve finally got a topic on which I feel like writing about and I go and get distracted by hotornot.com, admittedly scoring people very low. That site’s real achievement is collating the fugly in this world so effortlessly. Anyway, taking a u-turn back in the direction where I was originally heading, the reason why I’m noting this somewhat undesirable skill is because it sometimes leads me down routes of fruitful passage.

Today I was meant to call various office folk to arrange my finances for coming academic year. Instead, based on a conversation last night with Inn (elegantlywastedwords.com) about the lack of web development from ourselves, I decided to design and code a website based on an idea that I’ve had floating about for a good few months now.

The design uses off brown and reds to give it a warm and homely feel which is what a food blog should really feel like. Food isn’t about clinical work surfaces, it’s about that cosy feeling. At the moment it’s only in HTML and CSS, but I’m adapting and carting it off over to Wordpress by coding a lovely new skin from scratch (my second, the first being this blog right here) to see if it transfers well.

Just for the moment I’m coding this just to limber up and keep myself in the right frame of mind, work wise, so that when I head back to University I’ll be raring to go. Although, given how much I’m warming to the design and concept of the site I’m considering turning it into a long term project. I’m quite jealous of Alice (aliced.com) and Inn because of their 365 projects they did on Flickr because it’s something I’d really like to do but given my inexperience with Photography I’ve never felt comfortable attempting it, so this new project could be my 365…who knows? Regardless, I’m quite excited to see how this pans out.

Over a month has passed since I last blogged, where has the time gone? Well currently it seems that I’ve got a mountain of paperwork to climb what with student finance, temporary workand living applications needing to be sorted out. Finding a house in Canterbury seems to be the biggest hurdle given that I’m now back in London for the summer and spare time is very sparce. Viewings are getting hard to arrange as it means spending a possible 4+ hours a day travelling just for what could be a mere half hour’s viewing. Quite lame.

Anyway I should be back to blogging lots more now.

Now really is social networking o’clock so here’s one big update about all the stuff I’ve done online (anything to avoid work). Firstly this morning I decided to finally take a picture of the dishwasher note Michael wrote up and submit it to Passive Aggressive Notes, I doubt it’ll end up on the site since I’m sure hundreds are submitted daily but still, that kept me amused for about ten minutes.

It’s rare that my geekdom will stretch out into the depths of Language but given the recent revision on Wittgenstein I’m finding more of an appreciation for some of the words that crop up in my course. With that in mind I stumbled across Computationalism which racks up a slightly unimpressive 24 points in scrabble. So I decided to sign up for a site I’d heard about a few weeks ago on Pop Siren called Wordie.

For those who don’t know Wordie is essentially a social networking site based around the love for language. Here you can comment on words and phrases as well as share words you feel describe you best, it’s a great idea. They bill themselves as flickr without the images which is a great comparison to draw as both have amazingly friendly communities.

You can check out my profile where I posted Computationalism which, if you’re wondering, refers to the view that the human mind is basically a processing system of information. It’s also more commonly referred to as the ‘Computational Theory of Mind’. It’s quite a bleak theory but definitely a kick ass word!

In more social networking news I added a new twitter widget on the blog which you can check out to the right. I experimented with a few but opted for the basic twitter for wordpress plugin and just stripped down the unneccessary information to just the latest message. University is going okay, getting through all of this work which is taking longer than anticipated thanks to the many clerical errors that have been occuring. It’s pretty terrible how slack the departments get during the summer term.

This past weekend Maidstone played host to Radio 1’s Big Weekend, the world’s biggest free music festival. The moment I heard Chris Moyles announce the location I immediately knew, no matter what, that I would be going. Why? Because of Justice. Though they weren’t confirmed at the time a little hunch told me that they would be there, Annie Mac and Zane Lowe’s championship of them on their shows just said a little too much.

So I was lucky enough to get hold of tickets legitimately, avoiding ebay and the ridiculous prices of £400+ per ticket, an issue I’ll avoid for the time being as I don’t want to make yet another irate blog about evil ticket touts. What I will say though is that of all the gigs I have been to, the various Muse gigs, Less Than Jake, Radiohead, etc. Justice blew me away. So much so that I would say it was the best gig of my life.

Just half hour is all we go from the French duo, unfortunately they didn’t play their second set on the outdoor stage due to some controversy in France regarding their new video for Stress (again something which I’ll avoid for now) which was hugely disappointing, but I’ve still come away more in love with the band than ever before and raring to go and see them again at the nearest opportunity. I mean it was sheer genius on stage switching between a live and DJ set and yet appearing so at ease with the concept. I’m still on a high from the experience and it will take a pretty epic gig to eclipse this one. Perhaps a full set next time?

Something I discovered quite recently is a delightful company called Revision3. It’s a site I’ve visited in the past occasionally for Diggnation but one that I’ve never really explored to see what exactly was available. However I have rectified this mistake as best as I can by watching near enough every show they have to offer, absorbing every last episode in the space of a month.

Now some of you who may not know what I’m talking about and I don’t blame you as few hear about it aside from plugs affiliate’s websites and the like. Put simply Revision3 is Internet TV, providing some of the most original shows, all free of charge and in high quality. It’s utterly fantastic.

Unfortunately the range of shows are quite limited, rarely branching out from its geek sheik foundations with shows such as Tekzilla and PixelPerfect, but that’s one of the company’s biggest charms. They set out to make television they felt they could watch and I have to hand it to them, they know what works. I adore this company purely because it has its finger on the pulse. Like they say on their website “Revision3 is the first media company that gets it”.

If you’re ever stuck with nothing on TV check it out, there’s always a recent show that you wouldn’t have seen and if that’s not enough you can go through the archives. Shows I would recommend are Diggnation, Totally Rad Show, Systm and the Gazette for that behind the scenes stuff that really makes you realise how serious this new form of media is.

Just rereading this entry, boy does it sound like an advert. Ah well…if anyone from Revision3 is reading this, hire me! Heh!

In other, more upsetting news, I want to say my final goodbyes to Trevor our faithful BBQ. Some of you may know Trevor from last year’s seasons of BBQs where he served up an absolute storm. Unfortunately he’s now rusty and someone took off with the grill. Yes, they stole our BBQ’s essence. *Salutes* you’ll be sorely missed Trevor.
