Since meeting Michael the topic of being immersed in a Zombie apocalypse has come up quite a lot, too much some might argue, but still it’s arisen. When watching zombie films, everyone spots and criticises bad mistakes no matter how many times the characters make them. The question that always arises however is, “what’s your plan?” and what I’ve since discovered is that everyone has one, no matter how basic or detailed, they still have an idea of what to do if the worst happens. You can forget wanting to change the environment, protecting endangered species, the lust for power and money, preparation for a zombie apocalypse is what unifies us as a species.
In talking to friends though the answers have all been different, some make rookie mistakes, some have things so well planned out Michael sheds a little tear. Some of the best ideas I’ve heard have been going on campus and barricading one’s self in the library, another was that they’d thouroughly check their housemates for wounds and then devise in their head who they’d eat first if it came down to it and the funniest was that they’d kill anything that moves until they knew they were safe. Although not plans on their own, those all made me laugh and then think, good point.
The worst suggestion that commonly comes up is “go save my family!”. BUZZ, WRONG! Firstly travelling is near enough suicide in a Zombie invasion, if you need proof watch the scene in 28 Days Later when they get stuck in the tunnel. Although they survive that’s more through luck than being kick ass Zombie slayers. Speaking of which, I’d love to have that on my CV. Stuart Traynor…zombie slayer. Anyway, secondly, they’re probably already dead. If you haven’t heard from them, regardless of lack of means of communication you should assume this. Common sense.
To further prepare yourself, watch the Zombie special on Nick Frost’s Danger 50,000 volts…

It’s amazing!
Side note…anyone notice the use of the tyres cameo in the zombie picture? :D
